How to use this calculator
Enter a pressure and select PSI, bar or kPa. Use the result when reading a regulator, comparing kegging instructions or recording carbonation settings in a brew log.
Pressure is only meaningful with temperature, target CO2 and dispensing context. Convert the unit first, then confirm that the vessel, regulator and lines are rated for the selected pressure.
How the calculation works
The converter uses kPa as its intermediate unit: 1 PSI is 6.89476 kPa and 1 bar is 100 kPa. It is a unit conversion only and does not calculate carbonation pressure from beer temperature or CO2 target.
Example calculation
12 PSI converts to approximately 0.827 bar and 82.737 kPa. The result is numerically equivalent, but the safe operating decision still depends on the equipment and beer temperature.
Understanding the result
Pressure conversion helps you read and communicate the same regulator setting in different units. It does not tell you whether that setting will produce the desired carbonation or pour balance.
Use the Carbonation Calculator when you need a target pressure estimate, and the Keg Balancing tool in the premium portal when planning beer-line resistance.
Common mistakes
- Confusing gauge pressure with absolute pressure.
- Ignoring serving temperature.
- Using a converted value outside equipment ratings.
- Assuming pressure alone determines carbonation speed.
Frequently asked questions
How many bar is 12 PSI?
12 PSI is approximately 0.827 bar using the implemented conversion.
Does this calculate keg carbonation?
No. It converts units only; use the Carbonation Calculator for a pressure estimate.
Is PSI the same as kPa?
They are different units that describe the same physical quantity and can be converted precisely.
