How to use this calculator
Enter a temperature and select Celsius or Fahrenheit as the source and target unit. This is useful when a yeast sheet, recipe, thermometer or brewing guide uses a different temperature convention.
For brewing decisions, convert the value first and then consider whether the thermometer itself is accurate. A mathematically correct conversion cannot fix a sensor that reads incorrectly.
How the calculation works
The converter uses the standard linear relationships F = C x 9/5 + 32 and C = (F - 32) x 5/9. No brewing-specific adjustment is applied.
Example calculation
A mash target of 66 C converts to 150.8 F. The result is rounded for display, while the underlying relationship remains the standard temperature conversion.
Understanding the result
Temperature units are only a representation of the same thermal condition. In brewing, the important question is whether the converted value is being used for mash, fermentation, chilling, storage or serving.
Record the unit beside every measurement. This prevents a correct number from being applied at the wrong process stage.
Common mistakes
- Reading Fahrenheit as Celsius.
- Rounding several times during a calculation.
- Applying a temperature conversion to a different process stage.
- Assuming conversion verifies thermometer calibration.
Frequently asked questions
What is 20 C in Fahrenheit?
20 C is 68 F using the standard conversion.
Should I use Celsius or Fahrenheit in Beer Control?
Use the unit expected by the input field and keep your brew notes consistent with your equipment.
Does this tool correct a thermometer?
No. It only converts units.
